Charlie Herring - A Fermament

Charlie Herring - A Fermament - England, 2017

Region: Hampshire
Grape: Sauvignon Blanc, touch of Chardonnay
Skins: 3 months
Tasting notes: Lemon peel, fresh, mineral

Tim Phillips, the heart and soul behind Charlie Herring wines in the New Forest, England has worked in South African and Italian wineries before settling in to this tiny 1 acre victorian walled vineyard.

The limestone, flint and sandstone soil is perfect for his sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and riesling crop that is protected and bathed in sun by the red brick walls that surround the vineyard. Phillips is ‘convinced that the true value of wine lies in it’s ability to reflect time and place’, and so all practices in the vineyard and the cellars are organic/ biodynamic/ minimal intervention to produce authentic wines, as he also says… “wine is life”.
